JUNIORS

We have a thriving junior section at Colchester Hockey club, with junior specific training being held on Sundays. As well as training, there are regular mini tournaments held throughout the season across Essex and Suffolk.

Enjoyment is the primary objective for our junior sessions, whilst also working on developing skills and helping the children grow a love for hockey that hopefully continues into adulthood.

Junior sections

We have 4 junior sections running presently. Each section has a suggested age that is appropriate, but we also take into account the skills and progression of each child. This ensures that everyone is getting the most out of the sessions.

Each child must have a gumshield and shin pads when attending training/matches. Sticks can be provided initially to use during the sessions, but each child will need their own stick if attending regularly.

  • Gladiators

Aimed at children in school years 1-3, or those new to hockey. Children will occasionally have the opportunity to play in local Under 8 tournaments.

Training sessions are on Sundays  9-9.45

 

  • Romans

Aimed at children in school years 4 and 5, or those with some experience of hockey already. At this stage the children have the opportunity to play in regular mini tournaments.

Training sessions are on Sunday 9-10

 

  • Saxons

Aimed at children in school years 6 and 7, or those with a decent amount of hockey experience. At this stage the children have the opportunity to play in regular mini tournaments.

Training sessions are on Sunday 10-11.30

 

  • Centurions

Aimed at children in school years 8 and 9, or those who regularly play hockey to a good junior level. At this stage, some children who are 13+ may have the opportunity to train with the adult teams if invited. There are also some friendly u14 matches throughout the season.

Training sessions are on Sunday 10-11.30

Under 16’s and under 18’s attend the appropriate adult training sessions.
